Obama Tours in Oahu
The newest president of the United States, Barack Obama, is from Hawaii. Obama went to high school very close to the Academia Language School building!

With the international spotlight focused on the new president many people are coming to Hawaii just to see where Obama grew up. Many local entrepreneurs are taking advantage of this opportunity and creating "Obama" tours around the island. These tours show where he grew up, went to high school, surfed and played basketball.

Obama also used to love going to Sandy Beach, a very popular body surfing location.

Academia plans on taking students on a "Obama" tour in 2009. Students and a teacher will learn about our new president's family history and the communities in which he grew up in.

Hiking
Makapuu Lighthouse Road
Do you like hiking?パー Hawaii has many great places to hike. The Makapuu Lighthouse Road is the easiest and one of the most beautiful hikes in Oahu. Very close to downtown Waikiki, Makapuu point offers a great view of the sea and sometimes a glimpse of whales. Once used as an Army anti-invasion lookout during World War II, this location has abandoned "pillboxes" and other historical structures. The lighthouse itself makes for a great photo opportunity.
The trail starts right off of Highway 72 (Kalanianaole Highway) and is also accessible by public bus #22 from Waikiki. If you need directions by public bus from any other location go to www.thebus.org.
Academia students go on hikes with our teachers all the time. If you are interested in hikes with teachers look for the activities calendar at the school, which shows when we will have the next hike.

* There are no public restrooms on the trail.しょぼん

Academia School Picnic - 2008

太陽太陽太陽
Ala Moana Beach Park witnessed a great annual school picnic. Everyone enjoyed the hamburgers and hotdogs. Sports included volleyball and croquet. The wonderful Hawaiian music was provided by John. The beautiful Hula dancing was performed by Yukiko. This year we had a an unusual experience in that Danny Kalanduyan provided Kulintag music, rare music and dancing of the Moro people of the Philippines. Special Thanks go to Marshall for making the arrangements.
