May Day (Lei Day)


On May 1, Lei Day is celebrated on all of the Hawaiian islands. A popular event with both residents and tourists, it's one flower lovers won't want to miss.

Lei Day celebrates Hawaiian culture throughout the islands with a variety of activities. The best place to enjoy this event is at Queen Kapi'olani Park in Honolulu, where the main festivities take place each year.

This is an all day event which will take place from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM and will include live music, hula, lei exhibits, food and craft vendors, and lauhala and lei workshops.

Ice Skating


Skate on ice in Paradise? YES! Join Karen and Cynthia at Ice Palace on April 16th. We will be meeting outside Suite 1215 at 5 PM. Please bring $14 for skate rental and bus fees. Sign up on the activity board in Suite 1225. Ask the Office Staff for more details!

Art & Cultural Exhibition


Join Brandon to enjoy the exhibition at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. This Thursday they are extending it's hours and staying open until 9 PM. At 5 PM, the Pavilion Cafe opens as a counter-service lounge selling small-plate, easy-to-eat dishes while the bar will serve a variety of drinks. The evening also features music---live and recorder. Docents will also give three exhibition zip tours of the museum. It's the perfect way to unwind after work or school!

Sign up on the Activity Board in Suite 1225. Please bring $5 to cover the entrance fee.

The 47th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival


The Merrie Monarch Festival is a week-long cultural event held annually in Hilo on the Big Island (Hawaii). The competition is scheduled from April 8th to April 10th, 2010. Festivities start on Easter Sunday and culminate with the hula competition events at Edith Kanaka'ole Tennis Stadium - Miss Aloha Hula on Thursday, Hula Kahiko on Friday, and Hula 'Auana on Saturday.

The Merrie Monarch Festival is committed to: 1) Perpetuating the traditional culture of the Hawaiian people; 2) Developing and augmenting a living knowledge of Hawaiian arts and crafts through workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions and performances of the highest quality and authenticity; 3) Reaching those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to participate; and, 4) Enriching the future lives of all of Hawaii's children.

In preparation of the Merrie Monarch Festival, hula studios and instructors in Hawaii and on the U.S. Mainland hold classes, workshops, and seminars throughout the year to teach the art of hula, the meaning of Hawaiian chants and songs, the Hawaiian language, the making of Hawaiian clothing and crafts, and the history of the Hawaiian people.

* Miss Aloha Hula: Thursday, April 8, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. - 12:00 midnight Hawaii time
* Hula Kahiko (ancient): Friday, April 9, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. Hawaii time
* Hula Auana (modern): Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. -12:30 a.m. Hawaii time

Free Firework Show on Waikiki Beach


Start off your weekend with a bang! Each Friday evening the Hilton Hawaiian Village puts on a free firework show on Waikiki Beach. The firework show begins at 7:45 PM and lasts for about ten minutes. You can view the firework show almost anywhere from Ala Moana or Waikiki, but the closes views are from the beach in front of the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
