ライフコーチLISA のWho needs Life Coaching?
Mie came to see me because she was very confused about her life. She wanted to have a career. She wanted to live in Hawaii. She also wanted to get married and have a family, someday. Mie didn’t know what was most important to her. Everything seemed to be very important. As Mie and I explored her “confusion” we discovered that she really knew what she wanted to do right now. She wanted to help people. She wanted to live in Hawaii. She wanted a job that would allow her to use her English language skills. She really knew EXACTLY what she wanted. But, she was afraid to try. She was afraid that she might fail. And, even if she found the courage – how would she figure out how to move to Hawaii? We ended our third session with Mie having a firm understanding of how she wanted to live the next 5 years. She made a list of the types of jobs she was interested in and the places she wanted to live. She also made a list of the people and organizations in Hawaii who would be able to help her. To reach this point, Mie meditated and found quiet time for herself so she could decide what was important to her. She also asked herself the questions: What is the worst thing that would happen if I failed? What is the best thing that would happen if I succeeded? From this, she found her courage. ３連休ですね！
私は軽井沢へきています。 LISA先生の今週の英語コラムです。 Homophones Homo means same or similar. Phone means sound (like telephone). Homophones are words that sound exactly the same, but have different spelling and different meanings. Bear – Bare Plane – Plain Tier – Tear Principle – Principal Because these words sound exactly the same, it is very important to listen for the context to understand the meaning of the word. Did I hear the word “bear” or “bare? I must listen for the word in the sentence and understand what we are talking about to know which bear/bare is meant. “I saw a bear in the woods.” I saw the animal “bear” in the woods. “I saw a bare man in the woods.” I saw a man with no clothes in the woods. Wow! Both would be quite scary, actually! Homophones can cause confusion even for native English speakers. Careful listening for the context is critical for understanding. 発音トレーニングはある程度まで独学が出来ると思います。
ただ、自分の発音がこれでいいのかな？と不安になることもあると思いますので 定期的にどなたかにチェックをしてもらえたら いいのでしょうね。 2回目のレッスンを終えて 少しずつ変化が見られてきました。 次回のレッスン 楽しみにしています。 私は、ともこさんのブログを拝見しつつ、オススメの参考書で独学を始めていました。 ＣＤに合わせて話してみるものの、発音が合っているのか？ 具体的にどうやって発音するのか？ 曖昧なまま進めていました。 そこにタイミングよく、丸の内でのレッスンのお知らせで、ラッキーでした。 実際体験してみて、聞いてもらって、チェックされるのって大切だなぁって感じました。特に習い始めの私にとっては、基礎固めという意味で。 息使いも、口の開け方も、「違う」ってことを体験出来たのは、大きいと思います。 私の職場の外国人や帰国子女の人は、当たり前すぎて教えてくれないところです。 あと４回、日々の練習を含めて、集中して１ヶ月頑張りたいです。 これからも、宜しくお願いします。

丸の内の英語強化コミュニケーションプログラム（中級者以上対象のグループレッスン）に参加された方のお声です。
私がTomokoさんのブログを見つけたのは今年の初めです。 英語ができる人の勉強法を紹介された記事で、その方が 毎日スカイプレッスンをしている事を知り、検索を始めたんです。 ハワイ好きの私がTomokoさんのページに辿り着いたのは自然な流れでした。 その時期Tomokoさんは新規の生徒を受け付けていなくて、 サイトで紹介されていたNYのAmyさんにお願いし、以来今日に至ります。 Tomokoさんのレッスンは1度受けたいと思っていたので念願だったのですが、 正直初回、最初の5分で帰りたくなりました... 他の方のレベルが高くて圧倒されてしまったし、毎回私のパートで 止まってしまう事が、申し訳なく思えたので。 あとレッスンのペースについていくのも必死でした。 音読も、自分で練習して臨んでもまだできていなかったりで、 2回目を受けた時、正直辞めようかと思うくらい、落ち込みました。 レッスンではなく、私の気持ちの問題です。 でも、このレベルの高いクラスに身を置き、他の生徒さんのレベルを見れるだけでも 刺激になるし、本当に無理になるまで頑張ってみようと思いなおしました。 辞めるのは簡単ですし。 凹むことがあっても、それはそれで今の自分のレベルなのだから、人と比べるより、 ありのままを受け入れる良い機会だと思うことにしました。 自分よりちょっと高いレベルで刺激を受けるのは大事ですが、 高すぎると頑張れません。 でも、その高すぎると思うレベルがなんとなく「ちょっと高い」レベルになり、 「結構自分もいけるかも？」レベルになるのは結局は自分の日々の努力しか ないですし。 今3回受けて、まだついていくのに必死ですが、今回の強化プログラムを受けて 私は自分の英語の勉強について改めて考えました。 どうして英語を勉強してるのか。 そのために時間とお金を使って勉強してることの意味。 本気で教えてくれるTomokoさんを前に、毎回改めて身が引き締まります。 もしBlogをご覧になってる方で、Tomokoさんのレッスンを受けてみたいけど 躊躇する気持ちがあったり、外人先生を囲んでのグループレッスンに 違和感を感じてる方がいらっしゃれば、とりあえず受けてみることをお勧めします。 なぜなら自分の状況が把握できるからです。 1人で悩むより、視界がクリアになると思います！
