On Sunday, December 13, 2009 at 5:00 a.m., 20,609 runners lined up at Ala Moana Park for the 37th annual Honolulu Marathon. Out of the 20,609 runners, 20,321 runners finished the race at Kapiolani Park. The winner, for the second year in a row was Patrick Ivuti from Kenya with a time of 2 hours and 12 minutes. The women’s winner was Svetlana Zakharova from Russia with a time of 2 hours and 28 minutes. The Hawaii (local) winner was Brandon Laan with a time of 2 hours and 25 minutes. Over half of the entrants traveled from Japan to participate in the race. Some of our very own students and staff at Academia Language School participated in this year’s race. We’d like to like to congratulate everyone who participated in and finished the race. We’d also like to thank all of our students who volunteered at the Honolulu Marathon as greeters and helpers.
